Comments on Beta 9.4.0.453
Testing on Android and also Windows 11
1) (All versions) Nice that SplashID notices when local data is out of sync with cloud data, but why not just silently sync it and forget the notification? Synchronisation between versions is presumed unless the 'Cloud sync on login and unlock' has been turned off. Then it has sone value to give the user the option to manually sync. Even then, just having the manual sync button go read or something would be adequate rather than the banner.
2) (All versions) Please also sync the settings for SplashID. Having to set it all up again when the app is reinstalled should not be necessary. Exception would be settings like FaceID, etc which would be specific to the platform being used.
3) (Android) Running the manual sync itself doesnt take very long, but the post processing (or whatever it is doing dealing with the updates/changes) seems to take an age and the app is entirely unresponsive during that time.
4) (All versions) Index doesdn't seem to be working properly for new records synchronised to another device. New records are in the record list but do not appear when typed into the Search bar, or at the very least take a very long time to become searchable.
5) (All versions) Icon Manager for custom record icons. Select icon name and a 'limited list' is correctly displayed. Click on 'edit' then 'Save' (making no changes) and even though the icon search still has the search field, all icons are displayed and not just the 'limited list'.
6) (All versions) Cloud Sync statistics/progress dialogue pop-up is still inaccurate and repeatedly shows (me, anyway) that I have an updated record, or a new one or a deleted one, every time I press sync, even if there haven't been any changes.
7) (All versions) Sync Troubleshooter still doesn't work. Just sits at 'Preparing Troubleshoot Report' with a spinning wheel. Never gets any further than that.
8) (Android) When scrolling through records, if you accidentally pull down too far then it does a Sync. Great little feature, if only it didn't mean that the app becomes unresponsive for the next few minutes whilst it synchronises and sorts itself out. Makes the app unusable. Have to Force Quit and start again.
More to come when I start using it properly.
Thanks,
Angus
Reviewing
Angus, thanks for your feedback. We are working on getting the following changes done. 1. The periodic sync will run in the background by default. A setting will be provided if a user wants to manually go ahead with sync when the refresh option is displayed. 2. The settings are split between account level and device specific settings to enable tweaking device specific usage. In a future release we will add an option for the user to mark all the possible settings global. 3. We are investigating the slow performance in the Android app during and after the cloud sync. 4. The post sync processing for search indexing will be re-looked into. 5. The icon search bug will be fixed. 6. We suspect the 'inaccurate' display of synced items could be due to some remnants left behind from past sync failures. If possible, please do a 'Sign out and clear data' once, and then sign in again to get an exact replica of your data in the cloud. If you have local only records then do back them up before you try this. 7. The sync troubleshooter slowness is also being looked into. 8. A solution to point 3 above will fix this issue. We expect to put in the fixes in the next beta release that should be available in the coming days.
