I think everybody with more than 20 records always use the search to get to a specific record, so the app should open ready to search, instead of having to press on the (very small) search icon.
or, at least make this feature as an option if you don't want it to be the default for everyone, though I don't really see the usefulness in seeing the full list, when you have hundreds of records.
The two most important (and most used) features are 1) search for a specific record (99% of the time), and 2) add a new record (1% of the time). The other features like sort, show list by category, etc, are not so used and should be secondary compared to the 2 most used functions.
