Change desktop interface to a concise, adjustable format.
Older desktop interface formats had a tighter, more concise appearance. I loaded version 8, but found it a great waster of space and I couldn't adjust it small enough to share on my PC desktop (I keep many windows open). I had to go back to Ver 7. I want the data concise with no wasted white space. Don't make it look like apps that may look pretty, but waste space and show much less data at a glance. And as I have been suggesting for many years, get rid of the black background in the Notes section - it is hard to see some colored text.

@Charlie We really appreciate your detailed comments. We are glad that you find the new application meets your needs. We will take up some of the changes you have suggested and that are feasible in upcoming releases.

One dangerous "feature" I just noticed on the right hand pane, the "Generate" button is there all the time, not just in Edit mode. If you accidentally tap that button, your old password is gone and replaced with a new one instantly. No way to recover the old password that is necessary on sites when you want to change your password. This function should not show up when looking at a record. It should only appear when you are in Edit mode.
And as I mentioned before, since the "Generate" button appears on all fields, data in any field can easily accidentally be destroyed and replaced.
This should be fixed immediately in my opinion.

Thank you for helping to make the latest revision to SplashID happen! The improvements added will now allow me to start using this version, without reducing my productivity. There are still some changes to make it as efficient as Ver 7 was (such as being able to show all fields of a record at once), but I understand these take time to implement. At least I can now see the same number of records as Ver 7 in only a little more desktop space, and can unmask all records at once.
I also especially like the ability to vary the widths of the columns!!! So much improved for my use.
The emails I received from the forum about the new release (re printing and the GUI) asked for feedback so I am attaching some pictures that have notations on them and will list the comments below. I am also replying to the forum/uservoice entry, so it goes back properly. Hope I can add pictures there.
Regarding printing, I can now print one record, several, or all by properly selecting records. It does the job but is not elegant yet. When print is chosen, it is not clear what is going to be printed. I had to run several tests to make sure I understood the process necessary to choose what I wanted. For example if I press Control P I don’t know if one record or all will be printed. If I go to “select” and choose a number of records, I know which are going to print. That is fine.
Now for the GUI improvements I see. I have enclosed 3 pictures that I captured from my screen and added comments on them (I used Snagit, as recommended by Leo Notenboom of Ask Leo):
The first picture is of Version 7, and shows how I use it on my desktop, which on this laptop is 12”wide x 7” high. I have reduced it to the minimum size allowed by the program (5” wide by 4” high). I can get about 13 records in the left pane, and all 9 of the fields and 11 lines of notes for the first test record are visible. At a glance I can see what data I want to copy into a website or form. If I could get rid of the useless (to me) icons, I could probably double the number of records showing.
The next picture is of the improved Version 8 on the same desktop. The minimum size I could get is 6” wide x 5” high, about 50% larger than Ver 7. So it wastes more of my desktop. (But much better than it was!!!!!! Thanks!!!). While one more record (a total of 14) is shown in the left pane, the right pane now only shows about one third of my fields and data of the first record. I will have to scroll to see all the data. Now if I have a lot of characters in a field, I expect to have to scroll. But if the data is under 25 characters, I would like more to be shown. This leads to the next picture.
The third picture shows a cutout of the SplashID window, and shows where all the wasted space still exists. In the right pane each field takes up two lines and leaves a lot of wasted white space. The generate button shouldn’t be there for non-password fields – somehow it showed up in all of them with this revision, contrary to the User Guide. The Copy button could be a hover like it was in Ver 7. Finally, the data contents of the field should be to the right of the Field Name on the same line, again as it was in Ver 7. This way only one line would be used and more of the fields could be shown at the same time in the window.
The “Add Record” button at the top is out in its own large wasted space. That is ½” by 6” of wasted space that could be eliminated if the button was placed on the same line as the Type and Category buttons.
The Setting to “Show data in compact view” is great!! It reduces the center column to only one line of data! Just what I wanted. At first I thought the middle pane was missing all the remaining columns. But in reviewing what that pane is for, I discovered all I need it to do is allow me to select a record to view on the right. So all I need is the record Title, as shown. Clever! Great use of space!!!
To solve the layout of the third column I discuss above, maybe the compact layout of that column could be switched on with the same setting!
By adjusting the left column to just the icon, I can leave it there without taking up too much space. Putting it behind a pulldown button would be better, but this works well.
Again, I want to emphasize that these comments are for fine tuning. I, for one, really appreciate the quick response to getting the most important changes out quickly! I can now use Version 8, and am upgrading my installations.
Unfortunately, I can't find a way to insert the pictures in this forum.

Please update your SplashID Windows app to the latest release 8.0.6.863. You can resize any of the sections in the records view. You can also increase the amount of content you want to see by selecting the 'Show data in compact view' in the Settings section.
SplashID Windows 8.0.6.863 can be downloaded from on https://www.splashid.com/downloads or use the 'Check for update' option in the application main menu to initiate the update.

I agree. After loading V8 there is way too much white space and I have to scroll up and down. But I see myself going back to V7.

Agree! I went back to v7 too. Better views and functions!! Charlie's comment is interesting... Casual and Power User. I would guess the v7 views would be for the power user (me).

If your marketing surveys indicate that some customers want (and your competition offers) a more app like appearance for the casual user, maybe the solution is to offer two display versions: Casual user and Power user versions. User chooses which they like. Wouldn't affect the database function, just the display.
